FAQ's

Switched Lasers generate a high powered beam of laser light in an extremely short pulse and are the most suitable lasers for tattoo removal treatment. The very short pulse of high powered laser light is absorbed by the tattoo ink particles, breaking them down into smaller pieces, enabling your natural immune defences to absorb and disperse the ink. A gradual fading of the tattoo occurs over a series of treatments.

An instant whitening of the skin is seen after treatment, but this generally fades quickly. The area is likely to feel tender for a few hours and can be red and swollen for up to 48 hours.

Very rarely the skin may become lighter or darker, or a small blister may form.

Most patients describe the sensation as similar to a hot pin prick or the flick of an elastic band. Whilst mildly uncomfortable, most people tolerate treatment well. A skin cooling device may be utilised to reduce any discomfort.

This depends on several factors, including the density and colour of inks and the age of the tattoo. Amateur tattoos can be quick to remove, taking 3 to 5 treatments, whereas professional tattoos vary considerably and some can take up to 15 treatments. Treatment sessions are spaced 6 to 10 weeks apart.

Avoid exposure to sunlight and sun-beds for at least 4 weeks.

If the tattooed area is covered by hair, please shave the area 1 day before treatment.

Do not apply any moisturising creams to the area.

On the day of the treatment ensure that your tattoo is free of make-up, moisturiser, lotions, deodorant and oil.

UP TO 48 HOURS AFTER TREATMENT

Avoid restrictive clothing or excessive friction of the treated area.

Avoid contact sports or any other activity that puts you at risk of causing trauma to the treated area.

Avoid applying creams, moisturisers, make-up, perfume or body lotions to the treated area.

Avoid hot baths or getting area wet

Avoid going swimming as chemicals in the water may cause a skin reaction.

Wash the area gently with soap and water but do not soak.

Do not shave the treated area.

Do not rub or scratch the treated area.

Do not lie in the sun or use a sun-bed as this activates the melanin in the skin and can lead to pigmentation marks.

Apply cold compresses of ice, or a pack of peas from the freezer wrapped in a clean cloth.
Do not apply ice directly onto the skin as this can burn.
Do not apply any creams/lotions to the area other than that recommended by your laser operator.

We recommend you continue to follow the instructions above until you feel confident that the treated area has healed sufficiently; i.e. the blistering has subsided. If you are unsure in any case, please do not hesitate to call us on the number below for a professional opinion.
